This lawsuit challenges the Chicago Police Department's placement of Wilmer Catalan-Ramirez into its gang database and ICE's unlawful conduct in his arrest and detention. The suit alleged violations of unreasonable search and seizure, and due process protections in the U.S. Constitution. The suit also alleged that the manner in which CPD gathers and disseminates false information about gang membership violated the Illinois Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial and ethnic discrimination. The case was settled in December 2017.

The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by NIPNLG and the Roderick and Solange MacArthur Justice Center.
