Ragbir v. Homan: ICE's Unlawful Targetting of Immigration Rights Activists
This law suit challenges ICE's targeting of Ravi Ragbir, a nationally recognized immigration rights activist and a vocal critic of ICE, and other immigration rights activists across the country. On January 11, 2018, ICE abruptly detained Mr. Ragbir at a routine check-in. The suit alleges that federal immigration officials have engaged in an unlawful pattern and practice of targeting for deportation immigrants who exercised their fundamental First Amendment rights to criticize immigration policy and enforcement.
The case was filed in the U.S District Court for the Southern District of New York by Arnold and Porter and the NYU Immigrant Rights clinic on behalf of Mr. Ragbir, NIPNLG, the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, CASA de Maryland, Detention Watch Network and the New York Immigration Coalition.
